Eight Texas Exes thriving in the NBA

The NBA season is in full swing and eight former Longhorns are off to solid starts with their respective teams.  With almost a month of action in the books, the Texas Exes have impressed thus far.

Kevin Durant is leading Oklahoma City Thunder in scoring with 21.9 points per game in his second season. His scoring average ranks 13th among all NBA players and first among all first- and second-year players. Durant, the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year, is also pulling down 4.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor.

LaMarcus Aldridge is helping to lead the Portland Trailblazers resurgence. He ranks second on the squad with 15.5 points per game and leads the squad in rebounding with 6.8 caroms per game. Aldridge also has 13 blocks and 11 steals on the year.

Indiana point guard T. J. Ford ranks 14th in the NBA with 5.8 assists per game. Ford also ranks 13th in the NBA with a .906 free throw percentage and is second on the Pacers in scoring with 15.4 points per game.

Rookie D. J. Augustin is averaging 10.0 points and 3.5 assists per game for the Charlotte Bobcats.  He currently ranks ninth in the NBA with a .926 free throw percentage.

Daniel Gibson has helped the Cleveland Cavaliers climb to the top of the Central Division standings with a 9-2 record, including their current eight-game win streak. The third-year player is averaging 8.7 points per game and owns a .350 3-point field goal percentage.

Maurice Evans has been a strong bench performer for the Atlanta Hawks early on, averaging 9.0 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He owns a .486 field goal percentage and .455 3-point field goal percentage on the year.

After serving a suspension to start the season, Royal Ivey has played in six games and is averaging 2.5 points per game and owns a .833 free throw percentage.

Chris Mihm, who is recovering from injury, has appeared in three games for the Los Angeles Lakers, owners of the NBA's best record at 10-1. Mihm is averaging 4.7 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.


 

 

Durant, Mihm, and Aldridge will be featured in nationally televised games during the week.  On Wednesday, Aldridge and the Trail Blazers will play host to the Chicago Bulls at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN. Mihm and the Lakers will travel to Phoenix for a 9:30 p.m. contest televised by TNT on Thursday, and Durant and the Thunder will host New Orleans on Friday.  That game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.
