Sophomore guard Sheldon McClellan is Texas' top returning scorer (11.3 ppg) and a Preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention selection this season. Texas hosts Fresno State on Friday at 7 p.m. Central to open the 2012-13 season.
What are you looking most forward to about opening night?
Just making sure all the freshmen feel comfortable because I know they are going to be nervous. I know my class was nervous during our first game, so just want to make sure we get them involved in the offense so they feel good and we get the team going.
What advice have you given the freshmen?
To act like it is practice all the time. We tell them not to worry about the fans, all the lights and things like that and just to say within the team and stay within the coaches.
What potential do you see in this team?
I think we have Final Four potential. Our team chemistry off the court has been closer this year because we spend a lot of time together.
Where has the team improved the most throughout the preseason?
I would say our defense. We know we can score and we have guys that can score. On defense, everyone has been dialing in and playing harder.
What other UT sporting events do you regularly attend?
We support everything. In the fall, we are at every home volleyball game, every football game and we try to go to soccer games when it doesn't get in the way of practice. We support all the Longhorns.
What is your favorite tradition at UT?
`What starts here, changes the world.' I think that means a lot because it is just not saying when you get here it is going to all be about this University. When you leave The University of Texas, it still has an effect on you.
What is your favorite part about being a UT student athlete?
The environment. The honor and pride you have of putting a Texas jersey on means a lot. The fans will make you feel like you are at home.
