Durant paces USA Basketball to pair of wins in opening weekend of pool play at FIBA World Championship

ISTANBUL, Turkey -- Former University of Texas player and current NBA All-Star Kevin Durant paced Team USA to a pair of wins over the weekend to open pool play at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Through the first two contests, Durant leads the team in scoring (18.0 ppg) and steals (five) and ranks third in rebounding (6.0 rpg) while hitting 13-of-24 (.542) field goals and 7-of-7 free throws in just 22.0 minutes per game. In Saturday's 106-78 win against Croatia, Durant posted 14 points (5-of-11 FG), eight rebounds, three assists against just one turnover and one steal in 21 minutes of action. He returned to register a team-high 22 points (8-of-13 FG), four rebounds, four assists without a turnover and a team-best four steals in 23 minutes of work. Team USA continues preliminary round Group B play on Monday, Aug. 30 against Brazil. Tip is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (Central), and the game will be televised live nationally on ESPN. The winner of the 2010 FIBA World Championship earns an automatic qualifying berth to the 2012 London Olympics.
