Men's Basketball to face Villanova in Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden

· Complete 2008-09 Men's Basketball schedule [PDF] AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas will face Villanova in the second game of the 14th annual Jimmy V Men's Basketball Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 9, ESPN and the V Foundation announced today. The Horns and Wildcats are scheduled to tipoff at 8 p.m. Central (9 p.m. Eastern) at Madison Square Garden. The other half of the event's doubleheader features Davidson and West Virginia, slated for a 6 p.m. Central tip. Texas will make its second appearance in the Jimmy V Classic. The Longhorns dropped a 91-83 decision to No. 9 Arizona on Dec. 9, 2003. This marks the sixth consecutive year that Madison Square Garden has played host to the Jimmy V Classic. Proceeds from the event benefit The V Foundation for Cancer Research. The Foundation was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, the Foundation has raised more than $70 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide. It awards 100 percent of all direct cash donations and net proceeds of events directly to cancer research and related programs.
