LONDON -- Former University of Texas standout Kevin Durant recorded 16 points to help Team USA to a 99-94 victory against Lithuania during Preliminary Round Group A action at the 2012 Olympics on Saturday afternoon. Durant converted 5-of-12 field goals, including 4-of-7 from three-point range, and 2-of-2 free throws while adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals in 28 minutes.
Team USA improved to 4-0 in pool play action and assured itself of a berth in the quarterfinals. The Americans conclude preliminary round play against Argentina at 4:15 p.m. Central on Monday, Aug. 6.
The top four teams from each Olympic preliminary round group will advance to the Aug. 8 quarterfinals, with the winners playing in the semifinals on Aug. 10 and the medal games on Aug. 12.
