Hill honored as part of Big 12 Conference Winter Chick-fil-A Community of Champions

May 6, 2011

IRVING, Texas -- University of Texas senior center Matt Hill has been named one of 12 honorees of the 2011 Big 12 Conference Winter Chick-fil-A Community of Champions, the league office announced. The award honors achievement in the areas of academics, community service, leadership and sportsmanship. One student-athlete from each Big 12 institution is selected during the fall, winter and spring terms.

A three-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection, Hill earned his bachelor’s degree in corporate communication in August 2010. During his five seasons in Austin, he kept a consistent presence in many of UT’s community service programs, including participation in Marathon Kids (promoting healthy activity and signing autographs), visits to the Dell Children’s Hospital (where he visited sick children) and work at the Austin-area Ronald McDonald House (where he helped clean and prepared and served meals for the residents).

Hill recently completed his collegiate basketball eligibility, where he saw action in 103 career games (two starts) with the Longhorns. During the 2010-11 season, Hill saw action in all 36 games and ranked in a tie for second on the team in blocked shots (23) and fifth in rebounding (3.1 rpg) while playing 13.7 minutes per contest.

Each institution in the Big 12 Conference is awarded $3,000 each year from Chick-fil-A for their efforts.
