Texas to face Georgetown in Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The University of Texas will face Georgetown in the first game of the Jimmy V Men's Basketball Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 4, ESPN announced today. The Longhorns and Hoyas are scheduled to tipoff at 6 p.m. Central (7 p.m. Eastern) at Madison Square Garden. The other half of the event's doubleheader features North Carolina State and Connecticut, slated for a 8:30 p.m. Central tip. Texas will make its third appearance in the Jimmy V Classic. The Longhorns dropped a 91-83 decision to Arizona on Dec. 9, 2003, before recording a 67-58 victory over Villanova on Dec. 9, 2008. This marks the 10th consecutive year that Madison Square Garden has played host to the Jimmy V Classic. Tickets for the Jimmy V Classic will go on sale in the fall via Ticketmaster and at the Madison Square Garden Box Office. The Jimmy V Classic will conclude the fifth annual Jimmy V Week, a weeklong initiative across multiple ESPN platforms and programs featuring special content to help raise funds for cancer research. In five years, Jimmy V Week has generated more than $5 million in total contributions for the V Foundation for Cancer Research, including an initiative-record $1.3 million in net proceeds last year The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $120 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide. It awards 100 percent of all direct cash donations and net proceeds of events directly to cancer research and related programs. Administrative and fundraising expenses are paid by the Foundation's endowment. The Foundation awards grants through a competitive awards process strictly supervised by a Scientific Advisory Board.
