KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- University of Texas sophomore swingman Jordan Hamilton and freshman forward/center Tristan Thompson were both named to the five-person National Association of Basketball Coaches Division I All-District 8 First Team, the NABC announced today. The teams were selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC.
Hamilton and Thompson are joined on the NABC All-District 8 First Team by Marcus Morris (Kansas), Alec Burks (Colorado) and LaceDarius Dunn (Baylor). District 8 encompasses all 12 member institutions of the Big 12 Conference.
One of 10 finalists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy (USBWA National Player of the Year), Hamilton has also earned All-Big 12 First Team honors this season. Entering postseason play, he leads the team in scoring (18.5 ppg) and ranks second in rebounding (7.6 rpg) and double-doubles (six). Hamilton has topped the 20-point mark in 13 of the first 31 contests.
One of five finalists for the Wayman Tisdale Award (USBWA National Freshman of the Year), Thompson has also earned Big 12 Freshman of the Year, All-Big 12 Second Team, Big 12 All-Defensive Team and Big 12 All-Rookie team honors this season. Entering postseason play, he leads the team in rebounding (7.7 rpg), blocks (70) and double-doubles (seven) and ranks second in scoring (13.5 ppg) and steals (30). Thompson has reached double figures in scoring in 25 of UT's first 31 games.
The 245 student-athletes from 24 districts are eligible for the State Farm Coaches' Division I All-America teams. Those teams will be announced on Saturday, April 2 at 8:30 a.m. (Central) at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Houston during the NABC Convention and NCAA Final Four.
