J'Covan Brown named to Academic All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Team

IRVING, Texas -- The Big 12 Conference announced Thursday the selection of University of Texas junior guard J'Covan Brown to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Team. Brown, currently the league's leading scorer (19.7 ppg), earned a first-team selection for the second consecutive season.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the academic all-league men's basketball team consisted of 11 first-team members and nine second-team members. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA, while the second team features players with a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify for the team, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA either cumulatively or in the previous two semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled games. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Seniors who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all criteria except percent of participation also are eligible.
