The 2011-12 academic season marks the eighth year of the State Farm Lone Star Showdown, the all-sports athletics competition between Texas and Texas A&M. UT has maintained ownership of the Showdown trophy in five of the first seven years. The Horns claimed the inaugural Showdown in 2004-05 by a 14.5-4.5 point margin, recorded a 14.0-5.0 victory in 2005-06 and posted a 10.5-8.5 win in 2006-07. The Aggies claimed a 10.5-8.5 victory in 2007-08 and the two schools tied (9.5-9.5) in 2008-09 (A&M retained the trophy based on outright win in 2007-08). UT recorded a 10.0-9.0 victory in 2009-10 and the two schools tied (9.5-9.5) last year (Texas retained the trophy based on outright win in 2009-10). Texas holds a 5.0-1.0 lead in points in this year's Showdown standings heading into Wednesday's contest in Austin (Women's Basketball plays at 6 p.m. Central on Wednesday in College Station). The winning school in Wednesday's game receives 0.5 point. In order to win the Showdown, a school must acquire 10.0 points during the year.
