TEXAS Head Coach Rick Barnes On final three minutes: I thought the play of the game was Adams' offensive rebound. I thought we gave the game away. We didn't execute the things we wanted to. We took a couple tough shots and we broke down a few times, execution wise. I can't tell you why certain guys didn't know where they were supposed to go and I can't tell you why we made some of the decisions that we made at the end of the game. On Jovan: I think he got careless. That has been our problem, guys being careless. Javan did some good things early. I thought he really put pressure on them. We wanted to keep pushing it. They took Javan away from the basket. He was just trying to win. On lack of quality shots at the end: We told [the players], when you get in the lane, lets get a good shot. We mishandled the ball as far as turnovers. I am not sure what a lot of their thought processes was. There has to be a sense of urgency, and you have to get the ball. It is a learning process. It is just disappointing because we gave the game away. On positive aspects of the game: I thought Cam did a great job. I thought Connor did a great job in the middle of their zone. We had unbelievable looks at the basket. We didn't have a particularly good shooting night from the perimeter, but those are shots that we have to take. We did a great job for about 36 minutes. We played with confidence, but we stopped listening and we stopped executing. You have to give them credit. Adams got that ball, which was a huge play. Sophomore G Julien Lewis Sophomore G Sheldon McClellan On mistakes at the end of the game: Everybody just has to take care of the ball. We had two missed layups at the end of the game. We just got to make some more plays. Freshman C Cameron Ridley On if it was difficult to shoot in a venue like Reliant Stadium: If I was a guard, it might make a big difference. But since I am in the post so close to the basket, not really. On the end of tonight’s game: Towards the end of the game, we have to become tougher as a team. We have to get better at making plays at the end of the game. Freshman G Javan Felix On moving forward: It hurts because that one slipped away from us. But we have to learn from it and move on. UCLA Head Coach On preparations before the next game: We need to continue to work on our defense. This is their sixth day in a row; we went Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and a game today; they will get two days off then we will begin to work on everything defensively. We have to work on our motion, not getting beat on penetration, and simple basketball plays. Overall, it was a great win for our team, a good one on the road against a very well coached team like Texas. Shabazz Muhammad On the improvements to be made: I think we need to block out. I thought we played great defense down the stretch. We buckled down to play defense. Our defense had been improving but we need to buckle down to get those rebounds. Jordan Adams On getting key rebounds down the stretch: They were key because Texas is a long and big team and for us to capitalize on those rebounds to get points was a huge advantage for us.
