Durant leads Men's Basketball to 62-61 road win over Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Justin Mason hit a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 2:04 left and Kevin Durant had 26 points and 15 rebounds in Texas' 62-61 victory over Nebraska on Wednesday night. Nebraska had a chance to win after Ryan Anderson hit a short jumper to get the Cornhuskers within a point and Texas' D.J. Augustin missed as the shot clock ran down with eight seconds left. But Jamel White missed a baseline runner, and the Longhorns' J.D. Lewis rebounded. The Longhorns (14-5, 4-1 Big 12), who dropped out of the Top 25 after losses to Oklahoma State and Villanova, picked up only their second win in five true road games. Nebraska (12-6, 1-3) lost for the first time in 10 home games this season. Durant, who came into the game averaging 34 points against Big 12 opponents, was 10-of-18 and made three 3-pointers after struggling in Saturday's 76-69 loss at Villanova. Durant scored 13 of the first 15 points of the second half for Texas, giving the Longhorns a 46-40 lead on his alley-oop dunk with 11:42 left. But he didn't score again. A.J. Abrams added 14 points in his 10th straight game in double figures. Marcus Perry made 5-of-9 3s and finished with 17 points to lead the Huskers. Aleks Maric had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Ryan Anderson 12 points. The Longhorns' biggest lead was 51-43 on Craig Winder's 3-pointer in the middle of the second half. Nebraska then outscored Texas 14-5, taking a brief lead on Anderson's long 3-pointer with 4:22 left. It was Texas' sixth straight win in the series. POSTGAME QUOTES On Texas' defense: We came out and tried to play hard. I told the team that we had to be better on defense. I thought that we switched well and we did good in guarding (Aleks) Maric, going inside and outside well. On Texas' offensive adjustments: We wanted more ball movement, especially from side-to-side. We would sometimes get in a hurry driving when we should have taken the shots, and then we'd take a tougher shot later in the shot clock.
