Covering the bases with Boone: Dec. 28
Hello again y'all, and welcome to the holiday edition of 'Covering the bases with Boone.' So far it has been a very exciting break for me, and I hope that everyone has been enjoying their time off from school and work as well. I spent the first couple days of my break in Austin running around to finish my Christmas shopping. I got really lucky because I missed the crowds for the most part, which was a really encouraging way to start the break. On Wednesday morning I headed back home bright and early to exchange vehicles with my dad so that he could take my truck to get new tires put on while I went to the dentist. On the way to the dentist I swung by my high school baseball field and found my high school coaches putting up the outfield screen. Of course I was disappointed that I couldn't hang around longer and help them out, but I'm sure the three of them handled it just fine. The next couple of days were spent with my family and friends just relaxing, hunting and playing dominoes. My girlfriend Michelle came down on Thursday and was introduced to the ways of "42" and "Moon" courtesy of my friends and I. We also had an interesting night of "Deal or No Deal" and "SongBurst 50's & 60's Edition" with my family on Friday night. You would be surprised at how many songs you can remember just from hearing them on the radio or in movies. Of course my mother and father pretty much dominated, but we were still able to hold our own. On Christmas Eve we went to Hallettsville to celebrate with my mother's side of the family. The food was absolutely amazing, and it was really good to see everyone and get updated on things. The unofficial count that day was 89 people. That might not sound too crazy to some people out there, but they are all very outgoing and fun-loving people so things are always interesting. My aunt, who had read one of my previous entries on TexasSports.com, mentioned that there were in fact new relatives present, but I never got around to meeting them all. Most of the evening was spent in the building adjacent to the house where we played dominoes and talked with everyone. It was a pretty rough evening for me because my second cousin (who is one year younger than me) dominated the first game, although he did have some help from a relative. However, shortly after that, someone much younger than us beat us both rather handily. In order to avoid embarrassment, I won't get into specifics, but just know that the winner is not going to be graduating high school any time soon... We had our family Christmas on the morning of the 25th. My sister and I got up and opened presents and then my family ate lunch. We actually have a normal Christmas meal in case anyone was wondering if we have barbecue then like we do at Thanksgiving. After lunch we hung out for a while and then headed to Houston. That part of the holiday was really exciting but also a bit tiring. It was fun to be able to hang out with Michelle and her family and play with her little nephews. They are really smart and have tons of energy, but unfortunately I don't exactly have that same kind of energy anymore! Needless to say, spending time with them was a lot of fun. Well, that's about it as far as the break goes. We will be returning to Austin on the 3rd and start practicing on the 4th. It seems like only yesterday that we started the fall semester, but I couldn't be more excited about finally getting rolling and further preparing for what we all hope will be an exciting and successful season. I'll check back with y'all in a couple weeks. Hook 'em!
