Four Longhorns named to Louisville Slugger's Preseason All-American team

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas had four players named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America team presented by Collegiate Baseball, the publication announced on Monday.

Taylor Jungmann and Chance Ruffin were tabbed to the First Team as starting pitchers, while Cameron Rupp was named a second-team catcher and Cole Green was named a third-team relief pitcher.

Jungmann, a Freshman All-American in 2009, went 11-3 with a 2.00 ERA last season, including a dominating performance in a 5-1 win over LSU in game two of the College World Series championship series. The right-hander fanned 101 while walking just 35 in 94.2 innings as a freshman. Jungmann went 5-0 in the post-season, including going 3-0 with a 0.59 ERA at the College World Series to earn All-Tournament honors.

Ruffin was 10-2 with one save a 3.32 ERA in 2009. He struck out 115 while walking 25 in 124.2 innings. As a freshman, he went 8-3 with a 1.96 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 78 innings. That season he went 7-0 with a 1.56 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 57.2 innings as a starter to earn third-team All-America honors from Baseball America in 2008.

Last season, Green went 5-3 with a 3.34 ERA in 110.1 innings of work. Rupp hit .292 with 11 home runs and 46 RBI. Rupp hit .333 with one double, three home runs and six RBI at the College World Series to earn All-Tournament honors. He was also a All-Big 12 honorable mention in 2009 and earned Freshman All-America status in 2008.

Jungmann and Ruffin were both named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America team in mid-December.

Texas opens the 2010 slate with a three-game series against New Mexico from Feb. 19-21 at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
