Covering the bases with Boone: Nov. 30

Hello again everyone. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday! Mine went very well, and I was even able to return to Austin with some leftover barbecue, which is always an added bonus. If that sounds weird to anyone, it might help to know that our family barbecues for Thanksgiving. I know it's not exactly what most people do, but it is hard to make the traditional turkey and dressing at a camp house that does not have electricity or a stove. Plus, I think that barbecue beats turkey any day so I have always been fine with it. And leftover barbecue definitely beats leftover turkey, so you may want to give it a thought for your next Thanksgiving.

The rest of the break was also great, as I was able to get some hunting done, take part in what is becoming our annual Thanksgiving pick-up football game with my friends, and spend some time with my family. It was also nice to relax a little bit away from the city for a while. I love Austin, but I still need my occasional retreat back to the country every once in a while.

Everything is pretty much back to normal for all of us since returning to Austin. We are working hard to make that final push to see the light at the end of the tunnel as far as school goes. With respect to baseball, we are pretty much just working out right now until our throwing programs get started in December.

I went over to the field after running yesterday, and I was so impressed with the progress that has been made since I had been over there last. The retaining wall for the left field bullpen is up, as is the bulk of the foundation work for the left field seating areas. Also, the roof is painted and most of the grandstand has been pressure washed. Let me go ahead and say that you will be amazed at how big of a difference that has made on the old concrete steps.

Well, not a whole lot else is going on, so I'm going wrap this week's edition up and get to work on some speeches I have for my classes.

Hook `em!
