Longhorns competing at NBC World Series in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. -- The 2012 NBC (National Baseball Congress) World Series began tournament play last Saturday but it was action on Wednesday night that had a Texas flavor to it. The Santa Barbara Foresters, defending NBC World Series champions, feature three current Longhorns: Kirby Bellow, Jacob Felts and Taylor Stell. Last night, they earned a 2-1, 10-inning win over the Austin Gold Sox, a team that features current Longhorn Sam Shaw and Texas ex Jordan Etier. In 33 games so far with Santa Barbara, Felts is batting .271 (29-for-107) with three home runs and 17 RBI while Stell is batting .269 (21-for-78) with a home run, 11 RBI and 14 stolen bases. Bellow is 1-1 on the mound in nine appearances. In 24 1/3 innings, Bellow has allowed 26 hits and four earned runs with 13 walks and 26 strikeouts. Shaw is batting .231 with a home run and six RBI for the Gold Sox. The championship game will be played on August 11 and fans can follow the tournament online at nbcbaseball.com.
