Danks scores three runs in national team debut
University of Texas standout Jordan Danks scored a game-high three runs to lead the USA Baseball National Team to a 9-1 win over the Oil Can Boyd All-Stars in its exhibition opener at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, Mass., on Tuesday evening. Danks went 1-for-3 with one triple, three runs scored and one stolen base. He was also hit by a pitch and drew a walk in the contest. The Round Rock, Texas, native hit leadoff and played centerfield in USA Baseball¹s debut. Team USA scored at least one run in each the first four innings to build a 7-0 lead. It tacked on single runs in the sixth and eighth inning before yielding the All-Stars' lone run in the top of the ninth. The national team continues its exhibition schedule with games against teams in the Northeast Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) over the next five days, including the North Adams (Mass.) SteepleCats on Wednesday, the Keene (N.H.) Swamp Bats on Thursday and the Vermont Mountaineers based out of Montpelier on Friday.
