Stubbs and Kainer earn ABCA/Rawlings Midwest Region honors

OMAHA, Neb. -- University of Texas junior outfielders Drew Stubbs and Carson Kainer were awarded 2006 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Midwest Region Honors on Tuesday, June 20.

While Stubbs (Atlanta, Texas) was named to the first-team for a second straight year, Kainer (Tomball, Texas) earned his first career All-Region accolade by being selected to the second team. Notably, Stubbs and Kainer not only accounted for two of the 27 student-athletes receiving Midwest Region honors, but also gave UT multiple All-Region performers for a fifth consecutive season (2002-05).

A 2006 All-American who was also recognized as the Big 12 Co-Player of the Year, Stubbs batted .342 overall while ranking among the top 10 league players in runs (65), hits (83), home runs (12), RBI (58), steals (26), total bases (141), walks (41), on-base percentage (.439) and slugging (.580). Kainer, meanwhile, led Texas' regular starters in overall batting (.364) and RBI (66) while pacing the conference with 25 doubles en route to earning second-team All-Big 12 honors.
