2007 NCAA Baseball Austin Regional press conference quotes: Texas
HEAD COACH AUGIE GARRIDO
On playing at Dell Diamond: We are excited to be a part of this at Dell Diamond. It is a great venue and a great facility. We played here earlier in the year and it provides for exciting baseball. The energy from the crowd really surrounds the game and the players and lends a lot of excitement to it. It is always an exciting tournament. It is going to be decided by the unexpected. All of the teams here are capable of winning. We are thrilled to be a part of it. On if his team is ready to play: There is a lot of little boy in this team. They have fun playing baseball, and they are excited about it. They are confident about themselves. At the same time, they are going to have to fight it out. They are going to have to embrace all of the adversity that baseball throws at us. That is really the key to it. You embrace the problems that it throws at you and you move forward with confidence. On playing Brown tomorrow: We have our own standard and it is the way we do things. We don't like to change the way we do things when we get into a different environment. We start in the beginning. We are preparing to win to get to the National Championship and to win the National Championship game. When we don't, it is a surprise. But the routines we set up in the beginning are set up for that. In fact, sometimes they don't work as well in regular season play as they do later. JUNIOR RHP ADRIAN ALANIZ On not having catcher Preston Clark this weekend: It is disappointing not to have Preston. Obviously the situation that he is in was just a freak accident. Like Coach Garrido said, we do have the confidence in Brett Lewis and we are quite comfortable having him behind the plate. I think he is one of those guys that could be starting somewhere else in the country. Now that he has the opportunity to shine, he is going to do well. SENIOR 1B CHANCE WHEELESS Reflections on last year and adversity: Anytime you have an injury in the middle of the season, it disrupts your comfort and confidence. It was frustrating last year, but towards the end of the year, I got it going pretty well. I think I carried that over to this year and I really made an effort to double my work ethic and try to stay injury free and try to play the game the way that I know how. SENIOR RHP RANDY BOONE On what the upperclassmen are telling the younger guys: We're going to focus on tomorrow's game with Brown. Everything that Coach Garrido says is as important as he makes it out to be. We have to continue doing the things we have been doing all year and not try to change things now. We have to have faith in routines. We have built trust in the locker room and now we just have to go out and play.
