Thursday Pre-Regional press conference quotes: Texas State

May 28, 2009

Head Coach Ty Harrington
Opening statement: We are all extremely proud to be here. The one thing I wanted after our loss in the conference championship was the chance to coach this team one more time. Through what they've done this season, I get the chance to do that in the postseason. It's been an unbelievable season for us. We've had a lot of different records that we've broke so far, and a lot of different awards and accolades that these guys have all earned. These guys have just been incredible. I won't be able to say enough great things today or for the rest of the tournament about what they've done. The whole team is important. It has been fun and we hope that it keeps going. We're certainly proud and excited to be here today.

On coaching in the NCAA tournament: It is different. I've been in the other part of this with another color jersey on. I tried to explain to the guys that playing a regular season Tuesday game here is important and it's difficult, but regional play is different. The atmosphere here is different. There's no way for me to explain what that atmosphere is going to be like except for us to experience it. There is no way to practice it. This atmosphere is going to be something that they've never experienced before, and I hope that it'll be exciting and fun for them.

On Boston College: We've had a very difficult time finding information. We're going to try to pull off some TV links and try to see as much as we can. Our guys understand at this point what type of caliber pitchers they are going to be facing, and they understand what their job is and how difficult it is going to be.

On not paying much attention to media speculation: I'm so excited and proud of what our guys have done. It is our primary responsibility for us to go out there and play like a number two seed, and that is what we are going to do.

On having a growing fan base: With the new stadium, we started averaging a lot of fans. The excitement level of baseball really grew this year. The timing of everything--a new stadium and having a great team-- there are a lot of different things that sort of fell into play. When you're successful and things are going good, your crowds are better, so I suspect that there'll be a very nice crowd here tomorrow. There will be a lot of maroon and gold and a lot of Bobcats' hats rooting for us. I don't doubt that one bit.

Junior 1B Paul Goldschmidt
On the excitement of being in a NCAA Regional: We're just happy to be here and get the chance to keep playing. Hopefully we can get some wins and see what happens. I think we're a fairly confident team. These past few days, I've been really excited to keep playing with these guys and the coaches. We are the underdogs. We're the two seed for a reason, and there are a ton of other good teams, so we're just going to go out there and play our best and see what happens. Any game we play we have a lot of fun playing baseball, so we're just going to go out and have fun. And hopefully some things work out for us.

On having played at UFCU Disch-Falk Field before: I think it helps having played here before. The turf is different than some other surfaces around the country. I don't know if it's an advantage or disadvantage for us, I haven't really thought about it. We're just happy to play.

Senior RHP Kane Holbrooks
On being confident after some big regular season wins: We had three big wins on the road against Rice and Baylor. Playing teams from the Big 12 and getting some wins, when they're supposed to have some of the best teams in the nation, has helped boost the team's confidence a lot.

On the excitement of being in a NCAA Regional: It's an awesome feeling just knowing we made it to the regional. I've never felt this feeling in my life, so I'm pretty anxious to get out there.
