AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 5 Texas Longhorns were named the top seed for the 2009 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, the NCAA Selection Committee announced on Monday.

The Longhorns, who were announced as a host on Sunday, are grouped with the Texas State Bobcats, Boston College Eagles and Army Black Knights for play at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The four teams will play in a double-elimination regional with Boston College facing Texas State at 1 p.m. and Texas hosting Army at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 29.

As a top eight national seed, Texas is guaranteed to host a super regional if they advance past the regional round. The winner of the Austin Regional will face the winner of the Fort Worth Regional (Oregon State, TCU, Texas A&M and Wright State) for the right to play in the College World Series.

Since the NCAA began awarding eight teams with a "National Seed" in 1999, Texas has earned a top eight designation on four prior occasions, including the top seed in 2004.

The other seven national seeds include No. 2 Cal State Fullerton, No. 3 LSU, No. 4 North Carolina, No. 5 Arizona State, No. 6 UC Irvine, No. 7 Oklahoma and No. 8 Florida.

Texas is looking for its seventh national title. The Longhorns won College World Series crowns in 1949, 1950, 1975, 1983, 2002 and 2005.

The Burnt Orange won the Big 12 regular-season title and the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship this season, just the fourth time in league history someone has won the daily double.

Texas enters the regional with a 41-13-1 record.
