Baseball ends fall ball with 11-4 win over Texas State

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns posted an 11-4 win over the Texas State Bobcats in fall collegiate baseball action Sunday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Texas received multiple hit performances from six different players in the win, including Brandon Loy who went 3-for- 4 with two runs, one RBI and one stolen base. Travis Tucker went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Cameron Rupp went 2-for-5 with one double and two RBI. Kevin Keyes hit 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Jordan Etier went 2-for-2 with two walks, three runs, one double and one RBI. David Hernandez went 2-for-5 with one run. Texas State got two hits apiece from Tyler Sibley, Bret Atwood and Paul Goldschmidt who all went 2-for-5. Spenser Dennis went 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Texas was trailing 4-2 when the Longhorns exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The inning featured a two-run double by Rupp and a three-run home run by Keyes to give Texas a 7-4 lead. The Longhorns tacked on one run in the seventh, two in the 10th and one in the 12th for the pre-arranged 12-inning affair. Cole Green started for Texas and pitched two scoreless inning allowing one hit. Taylor Jungmann and Chance Ruffin each allowed two runs in their two innings before Texas' final four pitchers combined to allow just four hits over six scoreless innings. Stayton Thomas and Keith Shinaberry each worked one shutout frame and Brandon Workman and Austin Wood closed out the game with two scoreless innings a piece. Texas closed out the fall with a 2-2 mark. The Longhorns begin the 2009 season on Feb. 20-22 when they welcome Illinois-Chicago to town for a four-game series.
