Friday Pre-Super Regional press conference quotes: Texas

June 9, 2011

Head Coach Augie Garrido
Opening statement: We're all very excited to be a part of this tournament. There are 16 teams left obviously, throughout the United States. The watermark for this program is the College World Series, and this gives us our opportunity to get into that venue. Everyone is healthy, and we are excited and ready for the games to start.

On how playing elimination games in weeks previous prepared the team: It's had an effect. Fortunately it has been a positive effect, because they have come together. I think they are motivated by the sense of urgency connected to the season coming to the end. I heard that several times in their own conversations. Finally the game is played by the players on the field. The energy that they have in relationship to teamwork has a heavy influence on the results. So the end product always belongs to the players. Coaches can let players lose but they can't make players win.

Junior P Taylor Jungmann
On rebounding from last week: I mean you take what you can from it. That's about all you can do. You move on, and learn from it, and think about what you did wrong, and what you can do to fix. That's what I did in the bull pen yesterday.

On what he learned from his last start: I don't look at film really and unless something is really wrong. Everybody has a bad start and that was one of them. But like I said, I don't look too much into it.

Junior SS Brandon Loy
On the bottom of the lineup: Felts has really struggled all year, but to see him come out and play the game, and have success has been exciting. He has really been carrying the bottom of the order, especially with Lusson [Kevin] stepping up, and hitting those two home runs, and the walk off hit. I am very excited about what they are doing, and I hope they can carry it into this weekend.

On if playing at home gives them an advantage: We don't really know a whole lot about their lineup, but we know that they have some home runs. It's definitely going to be more difficult for them because of this ballpark, because it's bigger and the ball doesn't carry as much here. It's definitely going to be a good series, and like Coach [Garrido] we are not worrying about what they are doing, but more of what we're doing. We want to play to the best of our abilities, and playing hard. It's going to be a great series, and it's going to be fun.
