AUSTIN, Texas – Head coach Augie Garrido earned his 1,800th career win as the No. 7 Texas Longhorns downed the No. 14 Oklahoma Sooners 5-0 on Friday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.  Garrido is the first coach at the Division I level to reach the 1,800-win plateau.

Taylor Jungmann (10-0) threw his third complete-game shutout of the season, giving up four hits and a walk while striking out nine. He lowered his ERA to 0.90 on the season and improved to a perfect 17-0 in 24 career starts at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns have won in all 24 of his starts.

Texas (32-10, 14-5 Big 12) scored its first run in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Tant Shepherd led off the inning by being hit by a pitch from Oklahoma starter Michael Rocha.  After Erich Weiss sacrificed him to second, Shepherd reached third off a throwing error by Rocha on a failed pick-off.  Paul Montalbano then doubled to the gap in left center to score Shepherd.

The Longhorns added another run in the bottom half of the fifth.  Brandon Loy tripled to left with two outs and crossed the plate on a bunt single by Mark Payton two pitches later.

Texas inflated the cushion to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the sixth. Weiss sent a triple to leftfield, setting the Texas freshman record for triples with six on the season.  Montalbano singled to right to score Weiss and reached second on a passed ball.  Jonathan Walsh then singled to center to bring Montalbano home.

Loy recorded his second career home run in the seventh, a solo shot over the 375-foot sign in leftfield, for the final tally of 5-0.  

Loy led the Longhorns’ offense going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, one home run and one RBI. Montalbano went 2-for-4 with one run, one double and two RBI.

Rocha (8-2) was saddled with the loss for Oklahoma (30-12, 9-8 Big 12). He yielded five runs, four earned, on nine hits and one walk while striking out two over 8.0 innings.  

Texas and Oklahoma return to the field Saturday for the second game of the weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and it’s set to be televised on FSN.
