No. 3 Baseball wins doubleheader opener vs. Iowa, 3-1
March 13, 2010 AUSTIN, Texas -- Cole Green dominated on the mound as the No. 3 Texas Longhorns topped the Iowa Hawkeyes 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Green (4-0) pitched 7.0 innings giving up only one unearned run on four hits and one walk, while striking out nine. Green would also go 1-for-1 at the plate, 2-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt for his career. Phil Schreiber (1-1) was attributed the loss giving up three earned runs on five hits, three walks, and three strike outs in 5.1 innings of work. Iowa (4-7) jumped out to an early lead in the first. Mike McQuillan smacked a single up the middle and then proceeded to steal second and third. With two outs and McQuillan on third, Dallas Burke reached first on an error on a ground ball to third base, scoring McQuillan in the process to give Iowa a 1-0 lead. Texas (11-3) would even the score in the second when Kevin Lusson powered a solo home run down the right field line. The Longhorns tacked on a run in the fourth to take the lead. Kevin Keyes doubled off the left centerfield wall and advanced to third on a Paul Montalbano groundout. Kevin Lusson walked and Cohl Walla singled to score Keyes. Texas added an insurance run in the fifth to make the score 3-1. Tant Shepherd was hit by a pitch and was followed up with a Brandon Loy walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. Shepherd and Loy advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Cameron Rupp, and Keyes grounded out to shortstop scoring Shepherd. Lusson led the Texas offense going 1-for-2 with a solo homerun. Keyes went 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Walla went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Coach Augie Garrido Cole Green
