Information for Schools
For the December 14, 2011 Women's Basketball game vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff, UT Athletics offered the first ever Texas Women's Basketball 40 Acres Field Trip. The Frank Erwin Center opened its doors to 4,200 4th, 5th and 6th graders in Central Texas for exposure to college athletics and a unique experience with higher education. Students and chaperones received free tickets to the game to visit the campus and encouragement to pursue higher education.
In addition, the students were stimulated academically by some of the most entertaining educational programs The University of Texas has to offer. Each student received a workbook with age appropriate activities, as well as a special take home gift from UT Athletics.
This page will continue to be updated as the event approaches. Please check regularly to see what new information could affect your school. We look forward to seeing you on November 30!
Arrival and dismissal times
As the event approaches each school will receive an email with the time frame they should arrive at the Erwin Center. This allows schools to get into the arena in the most timely manner. When the game is over each school will be dismissed by UT Athletics Staff. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE WHEN THE GAME IS OVER. The buses are being staged in a predetermined order to ensure each school is able to leave as quickly as possible.
UT Athletics will check in staff.
As gameday approaches each school will receive a map that shows the easiest way to navigate the Erwin Center on gameday.
Students will be allowed to bring their lunch into the arena to eat during the game. Don’t forget to bring lunches with you when you exit the bus. Coolers will NOT be allowed. The concession stands will be open, and there will be special low priced items available. Below is the menu of reduced price items for the event.
- $4 Kids Pack (hot dog, chips & soft drink)
- $2 Hot dogs
- $2 Soft drinks
- $1 Popcorn
Each school will be responsible for creating name tags for all students and chaperones. Students and chaperones will not be allowed to enter the Erwin Center without a nametag. It is important to make sure students wear nametags at all times, these will act as tickets for students and chaperones at the event. Below is an example of how a nametag should look.
Parking for buses will be FREE and there will be a map to direct buses to the designated area. For anyone who drives separately there is event parking available for a fee. Parking can also be purchased ahead of time for a discount online at https://utparking.clickandpark.com/venues.
There are restrooms located in all four corners of the Erwin Center. When you check-in you will receive a packet that has a detailed map of where each restroom is located.
Seating map/Seat location
Each school will have assigned seating. The information will be sent to each school as the event approaches along with a map of the arena.
There will be no tickets for schools. The nametags will act as tickets, so it is very important to wear nametags at all times. If someone wishes to attend the event such as a parent or staff member that is not a chaperone tickets will be for sale to the general public on gameday. If a ticket is purchased on gameday it will not be with the group.
