Texas Volleyball climbs to No. 11 in coaches poll AUSTIN, Texas - Fresh off another 2-0 week and a road upset of No. 5 Florida, the Texas volleyball team surged to No. 11 in the latest USA Today/CSTV Top 25 Coaches Poll (presented by the American Volleyball Coaches Association), which was released on Monday. The team's No. 11 ranking is the program's highest since the Oct. 25, 1999 poll which had the team ranked ninth nationally. The Longhorns are now 13-0 overall and 5-0 in Big 12 Conference play. The Horns are one of four remaining undefeated teams in the nation, joining No. 1 Washington, No. 4 Hawaii and No. 9 Ohio State. UT is also tied atop the Big 12 standings with No. 5 Nebraska as both teams have unblemished league records. Texas has been mentioned in every poll in 2004, receiving votes in the preseason and first two regular-season editions. The Horns officially popped into the poll at No. 22 on Sept. 20 after a 3-2 victory over Colorado, then moved to No. 18 on Sept. 27 after a 3-0 victory at No. 21 Kansas. Texas returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 6, with a 7 p.m. match at Texas Tech. After that, UT travels to Manhattan, Kan., for a 7 p.m. match at No. 16 Kansas State, which CSTV will tape and air on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 5:30 p.m. |
