QUICK SETS
Texas
inched back into the Top 10 in this week‚s USA Today/CSTV
Top 25 Coaches Poll, moving up one spot to No. 9 ... Texas is ranked
No. 10 in this week‚s Volleyball Magazine poll.
Texas'
victory last week at Colorado gave the team 20 wins on the season,
marking the first time since 2002 the team reached that milestone and
the second time in head coach Jerritt Elliott's tenure at Texas.
Texas
is third in the nation in hitting percentage (NCAA Stats release,
11/9/04), with a .318 mark through last week, and is ranked 12th in
kills per game (17.25) and 12th in assists per game (15.74) with a
freshman - Michelle Moriarty - leading the offense at setter.
Mira
Topic is ranked fifth nationally - and leads the Big 12 in both overall
and conference only - in kills/game ... She has earned Big 12 Player
of the Week honors a league-best three times in 2004.
Brandy
Magee is two matches removed from the best performance of her career
as she had a career-high 24 kills and a .742 attack percentage at
Colorado, with just one error on a career-best 31 attacks ... she
earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors for performance, a rarity for
a player who only played one match the previous week.
Mira
Topic is now just 42 kills away from tying Dee Sance‚s
UT career kills record (2,013) ... at her current pace, she should
break the school record at Iowa State on Sunday, Nov. 21, or even versus
Kansas next Wednesday at Gregory Gym.
UT
has limited it opponents to a hitting percentage under .250 in 21 of
its 23 matches, including seven matches where the team has held its
opponents below .100 ... the only team that has hit better than .250
against UT is Texas A&M, which hit .257 and .303 in two matches
this season against the Horns ... offensively, Texas has hit for an
attack percentage of .350 or higher in 12 of 23 matches this season,
including five matches of .400 or higher.
UT
has won 17 of its 21 victories matches by 3-0 scores, and has won 66
games to its opponents‚ 12 in 2004 ... Texas has limited opponents
to 19 or fewer points in 30 games this season ... UT managed the feat
in only eight games in 2003.
RECENT NOTABLES
Texas won its fifth-straight match on Thursday, topping No. 13 Texas
A&M, 3-2, at Gregory Gym ... the Horns‚ two seniors led
the team to the victory as Mira Topic had a Big 12-best 33 kills
and Bethany Howden added a season-high 21 ... it was Topic‚s
sixth career 30-kill match, and her first since Sept. 11, 2003 (vs.
UT-Arlington) ... the 33 kills was the third-highest total by a UT
player ever and Topic now holds or shares the top four single-match
kill performances ... the 3,608 on hand to witness UT‚s 3-2
victory over A&M was the fifth-largest crowd ever to watch a
match at Gregory Gym ... Michelle Moriarty shattered her career highs
in both assists (77) and digs (13) against the Aggies on Thursday
... Moriarty had her sixth assists/dig double-double of the year,
while Dariam Acevedo added her second - coincidently, second against
the Aggies - with 11 kills and 11 digs ... Brandy Magee has hit .576
in the last two matches with 36 kills with only two errors on 59
