Player Journal: Day
6
Two plane rides, seven days, and so many bus ride that I've lost count, we've found ourselves having the time of our lives in Italy. We began our day on Monday, leaving the hotel from the village of Communanza at about 8:30 a.m. From there, we drove about two-and-a-half hours to the cost of Italy to sea-side resort town called Pesaro. The bus ride was a great time for us all to catch up on our sleep since a seven-hour time difference can do some damage to your sleeping time. When we were all settled in to the hotel, we went down to the restaurant and had some lunch for our pre-game meal. Once we finished our lunch, a few of us hit up the local stores around the beach then headed to the gym. The gym was about an hour-and-a-half away, so once again you can imagine that the team was sleeping just about the whole way. So far this trip we have done and seen some pretty amazing things that most people don't get the opportunity to do, but we all know that we are here for one reason to compete and win, so as soon as we stepped on the court it was all business. We came away with a quality win, beating out the team, 3-0.
But for me, by far the funniest moment that has happened on this trip has been when we were in Rome. (Leticia) Tea (Armstrong), Dariam (Armstrong), Mira (Topic), Brandy (Magee) and I were all roommates. We shut off the lights at about 11:00 p.m. to go to sleep, but then all of a sudden, Dariam got up to do something and she turned on the lights and we all look over and see Tea with her arms around a big bag of Oreo cookies and a huge glass of milk with a big milk mustache around her mouth. She had been eating cookies in the dark for about for five minutes. As this trip goes on, we have all learned a lot about each other off of the court. Now we are on our way to Venice which is one of the places I have been looking forward to go to the most, but Venice will have to wait for me. The team is dropping me off at the airport and I'm coming home today, back the great town of Gilbert, Arizona, to fulfill my last high school duty. On Wednesday, I will walk across the stage with my senior class and officially graduate high school, will be an honor and a privilege even though the time that I have spent with my teammates here in Europe I would not trade for the world. This last high school obligation is something that only comes once in a lifetime and I felt I just had to be home for it.
Until I return, Ciao! |
