Mira Topic Earns Big 12 Volleyball Player of the Week Honors
DALLAS - The University of Texas' junior outside hitter Mira Topic (Kastela Kambelovac, Croatia/Vladimir Nazor) was selected as the Big 12 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for her outstanding performance during the week of Oct. 13-19, the conference announced on Monday.
Topic led the Longhorns to a 1-1 record for the week as the team fell just short against No. 8 Kansas State on the road, 3-2, on Wednesday, Oct. 15, before defeating Texas Tech, 3-0, at home on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Against Kansas State, Topic posted her seventh double-double of the season tallying 20 kills and a season high of 18 digs. Along with the double-double, Topic added four aces and four blocks.
Against Texas Tech last Saturday, she accumulated 14 kills and nine digs, barely missing another double-double for the week. She recorded a career high of four solo blocks in the match and hit for .370 on 27 attempts.
Her averages for last week were 4.25 kills per game, 3.38 digs per game, scoring 5.9 points per game.
This season, Topic has a total of 279 kills with 177 digs and 39 blocks. She is currently ranked fourth in Texas' career kills list with 1,336 and has moved up from outside the top 10 since the beginning of the season. Topic also holds the UT match record for kills with 35 and was the first UT player to tab 500-plus kills in each of her first two seasons.
The Longhorns are on the road this week. They will travel to Lawrence, Kan., to face Kansas on Wednesday, Oct. 22, in a 7 p.m. match, before heading to College Station, Texas, on Friday, Oct. 24 for a match against No. 21 Texas A&M.
