AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 9 UCLA earned its second win of the day as it defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-0, in the first game of the evening session at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational, hosted by The University of Texas. The Bruins won, 30-15, 30-16, 30-22, before 257 fans at Gregory Gym in Austin. The win was the team's fifth in a row.

UCLA junior Brynn Murphy finished the game with 13 kills to lead the Bruins, while Katie Carter had 12. Setter Haley Jorgensborg had 34 assists, while Chrissie Zartman had 14 digs to lead the match. The Islanders were led by Melanie Travis' seven kills.

UCLA (7-1) opened a lead early, 4-2, in the first game and established the pace of the match. The Islanders hung close for a few points, but at 8-6 UCLA went on a 12-3 run to open a commanding lead. UCLA had a strong .438 hitting percentage in the first game, and held TAMUCC to .000 with seven kills to seven errors. The Bruins had 19 kills in the first, led by sophomore Nancy Barba who had six, as well as three blocks.

The Bruins continued to roll in the second game, limiting the Islanders to a .194 attack percentage. Freshman Katie Carter's nine kills highlighted UCLA's .467 hitting percentage. TAMUCC (3-5) fell behind 15-5 and tried to mount a comeback, but was not able to pull any closer than eight points the rest of the game. UCLA capped the game with a 7-2 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi played the third game with determination and played closely with the Bruins throughout the match. UCLA built a 8-3 advantage, but the Islanders rallied all the way back to trail by a lone point, 18-17. From that point on, UCLA controlled the game and closed the match with a 12-5 run.

The final day of action at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational begins on Friday, Sept. 12 with a Texas A&M-Corpus Christi UT-Arlington match at 5 p.m. Host Texas and UCLA will square off at 7 p.m. to close the tournament. All times listed are Central.
