AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas volleyball head coach Jerritt Elliott announced on Monday, May 5 the signing of 6-1 middle blocker Leticia Armstrong (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Central) to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Horns during the 2003-04 academic year.

"We are extremely excited to have signed Leticia to a National Letter of Intent," said Elliott. "She is an exceptional athlete who has the potential to be one of the premier middle blockers in the country. Her dynamic speed and competitive desire will be a big asset to our program. She will be joining three other exceptional athletes in this 2003 class. I'm very pleased with our first full recruiting cycle and I hope it's a clear sign to where the Texas Volleyball program is headed."

Armstrong was named first-team NIC All-Conference as a freshman, junior and senior. In addition, Armstrong helped her team to win the Prairie View Heights Classic and Northridge Classics while earning a selection to the Indiana North All-Star Team. As a senior, Armstrong was named Most Valuable Player of her high school.

Armstrong also plays for the Dune Volleyball Club, where she helped the 1999 team win the 16 Club National Championship in New Orleans. In 2000, she led Dune to qualify and compete in the 16 Open at the U.S. Junior Olympic Volleyball Nationals in Louisville, Ky.

Joining Armstrong in the 2003-04 signing class are 6-2 setter Jenny Andrew (Houston, Texas/Kingwood), 6-3 opposite Jessica Curtis (Marietta, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain) and 6-2 middle blocker Brandy Magee (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley), who all committed to Texas during the fall signing period.
