11/13/02 Texas 3, Oklahoma 0 NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Texas volleyball team ended its three-match losing streak by defeating the Oklahoma Sooners, 3-0 (30-21, 30-22, 30-20), Wednesday night with 504 people attending the match at OU Fieldhouse. Texas (19-7, 10-6 Big 12) hit .259 while holding Oklahoma (5-19-3-13 Big 12) to .059. Texas is 17-0 when holding its opponents under a .200 hitting percentage. Texas ended its second losing streak of the season against Oklahoma. UT was on a two-game skid when the Longhorns faced Oklahoma the first time this season. After defeating the Sooners, 3-0, in Austin on Sept. 25, Texas went on a nine-match winning streak. Sophomore Mira Topic (Kastela Kambelovac, Croatia) led the Longhorns with 12 kills. Topic hit for .296 while adding eight digs and two blocks. Fellow sophomore Kathy Hahn (Leander, Texas/Leander) was the other Texas player with double figures in the kills column with 10. Hahn hit for an impressive .381 for the match. Sophomore Bethany Howden (Austin, Texas/Westlake) had a good night as she hit .333 with eight kills on 18 attempts, making two errors. Howden also contributed four aces and three digs. Junior Stacy Millichap (Woodside, Calif./UCLA) extended her streak of double-digit digs to three, coming up with 15 digs. Freshman Caron Blotch (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) complied 32 assists during the three game match. "We came out ready to play very aggressive tonight," said Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott."We played with the same rhythm as we did against Colorado and Nebraska. It is nice to get back into the win column." Texas will finish the week by hosting Texas Tech on Saturday, Nov. 16. UT defeated the Red Raiders, 3-0, in the first match-up of the season on Oct. 12 in Lubbock. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Gregory Gym. |
