MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The University of Texas volleyball team swept the Kansas State Wildcats, 30-27, 30-26, 30-16, in front of 1,014 fans Saturday night at the Adhearn Field House in Manhattan, Kan. The Longhorns ended a six-match losing streak, which began on Oct. 9, 1999.

With the win, Texas gave KSU its fifth loss in the last 32 home matches. The only other opponent that has defeated the Wildcats on their home court is perennial power Nebraska.

The Longhorns hit .301 on the night for the sixth time this season and held Kansas State to a .104 hitting percentage. Sophomore Mira Topic (Kastela Kambelovac, Croatia/Vladimir Nazor) led all attackers with 15 kills while hitting for an impressive .462 clip. LaTonya Coates (Bangor, Mich./Bangor Public) was the other Horn with double figure kills as she slammed 13 kills for a .417 hitting percentage. Coates also was the only player in the match with a double-double as she tallied 13 digs. Freshman Caron Blotch (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) tied her career-high three game assist total of 42, which she set against Oklahoma on Sept. 25. Kathy Hahn (Leander, Texas/Leander) put away nine kills and added two aces.

"We won the pass and serve game tonight," said head coach Jerritt Elliott. "I thought the team competed well and had good focus from the first serve. We balanced the floor well and our offense was rolling. It's another important step in the Big 12 for us."

The front line for Texas came out focused in game one as four Longhorns hit over .400. Topic paced the offense with a .636 mark while Coates and Kathyrn Wilson (Macomb Township, Mich./Dakota) had identical .500 marks. Hahn hit for .429 in the first game. In game two, Topic and Bethany Howden (Austin, Texas/Westlake) notched five kills apiece to lead the Horns. Blotch shared the hits as UT enjoyed a very balanced attack in the final game of the match.

Texas next travels to Waco in the Big 12 midweek match and will face Baylor on Wednesday, Oct. 2 in a 7 p.m. start. The Longhorns' next home match is on Saturday, Oct. 5 when they host the Kansas Jayhawks for a 7 p.m. contest.
