10/3/01 Longhorns sweep Oklahoma NORMAN, Okla. Freshmen outside hitter Mira Topic (Kambelovac, Croatia / Vladimir Nazor) and middle blocker Bethany Howden (Austin, Texas/Westlake) each pounded out a team-leading 14 kills as the University of Texas women's volleyball team swept the Oklahoma Sooners 3-0 (31-29, 30-17, 30-17) for the 11th time in history on Wednesday evening at the OU Field House in Norman, Okla. The Longhorns improve to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in league play. Oklahoma drops to 2-12 overall and 1-3 in the Big 12. Topic added 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the season while hitting .391. Howden finished with a .545 hitting percentage, marking the third time she has hit above .500 this season. Redshirt sophomore Kathryn Wilson (Macomb Township, Mich./Dakota) continues to set new career records. Wilson collected 11 kills breaking her previous record of 10 set at Kansas State on Saturday, Sept. 29. Texas hit .349 as a team, its second best team percentage in 2001, while Oklahoma finished with a .055 hitting percentage. The Longhorns pounded 18 of their 51 team kills in game one as they edged the Sooners 31-29. Texas took control of the match in games two and three, winning both matches by a score of 30-17. The Longhorns hit a sizzling .419 in game two and .364 in game three, tallying 33 kills to the Sooners' 18 kills. The Longhorns return home to face No. 16 Texas A&M (Presented by Tivoli) on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in Gregory Gym. Saturday's match is Scout Night and Texas State Employee Night. The first 500 scouts will receive a UT Athletics patch and those scouts wearing uniforms will get $1 off their tickets.
