No. 25 Texas sweeps past Iowa State

AUSTIN, Texas - Freshman outside hitter Mira Topic (Kambelovac, Croatia / Vladimir Nazor) collected 13 kills on a season-best .440 hitting percentage and added a team-high 15 digs to guide the No. 25 University of Texas women's volleyball team to its second straight conference win, defeating Iowa State 3-0 (30-24, 30-16, 30-22) Saturday evening at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.

The Longhorns improve to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. Iowa State dropped to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the Big 12.

Topic, who tallied her seventh double-double of the season, helped the Longhorns outhit the Cyclones .274 to .042 for the match. Senior outside hitter Katia Lara (Sao Paulo, Brazil / Jucelino) added a season-best 14 kills while freshman middle blocker Bethany Howden (Austin, Texas / Westlake) contributed 10 kills and career-best eight blocks, the most blocks by any UT player this season.

Texas took the lead from the beginning, winning game one 30-24 after outhitting the Cyclones .216 to -.024. The Longhorns maintained their domination for the rest of the match. In game two, the Longhorns collected 14 kills for a .346 hitting percentage to Iowa State's nine kills and -.057 percentage. Texas won the match after jumping to a big lead in game three behind a match-best 18 kills. The Cyclones battled back in third game, hitting .195 with 14 kills, but it wasn't enough as the Longhorns won 30-22.
