Men sweep singles en route to 7-0 victory over Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – The 28th-ranked Texas men's tennis team defeated 47th-ranked Tulsa, 7-0, on Sunday, Feb. 13 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Longhorns handed the Golden Hurricane its second straight loss, while improving their record to 3-1 overall.

Texas opened the match posting 8-6 victories at both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to gain a 1-0 advantage. Freshman Bernhard Deussner (Vienna, Austria) and sophomore Hubert Chodkiewicz (Corpus Christi, Texas) defeated brothers Federico and Ricardo Soriano at the third spot before the point was clinched by juniors Callum Beale (Adelaide, Australia) and Roger Gubser (Laredo, Texas) at the top of the lineup. Tulsa's lone victory of the match came at No. 2 doubles where freshmen Travis Helgeson (Overland Park, Kan.) and Luis Diaz Barriga (Cordoba, Mexico) fell to Diego Camacho and Andy Connelly, 8-3.

In singles, Texas swept all matches in straight sets. At the top two positions, Beale defeated Achim Roth, 6-3, 6-3 and Helgeson stopped Federico Soriano, 6-1, 7-6. Meanwhile, Gubser took care of Ricardo Soriano, 6-3, 7-5 at the third spot. The bottom half of the lineup saw freshman Milan Mihailovic (Nis, Serbia) top Camacho, 7-6, 6-2, Chodkiewicz defeat Will Gray, 7-5, 6-4 and Diaz Barriga handle Lucques Maasdorp, 6-3, 6-3.

The Texas men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 26 for its home opener against Minnesota. The first serve is set for 1 p.m. (CT) at Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
