Corporate Partners Vital to UT Success
» Learn more about UT Athletics' corporate partners on TexasSports.com
Longhorns student-athletes face a daily challenge to succeed on the playing field. Behind the scenes, UT administrators face the challenge of meeting an annual budget of $63 million in order to provide the best facilities and opportunities for those student-athletes.

Just as the student-athletes have support in reaching their goals, UT Athletics is able to meet its annual budget only through the significant support of its corporate sponsors who contribute about $4 million annually.

The Longhorns corporate sponsors provide services such as office equipment, sports equipment, footwear and apparel used by UT student-athletes. Media sponsors provide radio, television and print advertising opportunities. The corporate sponsors receive the distinction of being closely associated with one of the nation’s premier college athletics programs.

Host Communications has been in partnership with UT Athletics for some 20 years. Host, which has offices in Austin and Dallas, manages the Longhorn Sports Network (LSN) and coordinates corporate sponsorship and sales efforts.

Host also represents all sales and advertising opportunities associated with the Frank Erwin Center and has increased sponsorship sales for the Erwin Center more than $150,000 since assuming those responsibilities in 2001.

Host also provides the technological platform for the very popular UT Athletics Web site, www.TexasSports.com, coordinates with Yahoo! for audio Internet broadcasts, with SIRIUS for satellite radio broadcasts, with Fox Sports Net Southwest for men’s and women’s basketball games, with CSTV for 25 hours of UT programming, plus sponsorship of the Red River Shootout football game with Oklahoma. Most recently, Host coordinated the new annual rivalry series with Texas A&M.

Another firm, Action Sports Media (ASM), represents UT Athletics in advertising opportunities for the permanent, electronic scoreboard signage in Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, Frank Denius Fields, Myers Stadium, Disch-Falk Field, and McCombs Field. ASM also sells the advertising that appears on the Sony Jumbotron in Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

With Host and ASM as teammates, UT Athletics is realizing a gross sponsorship revenue of approximately $6.3 million annually.

In 1981, the UT System Board of Regents established a trademark and licensing division to protect the names and identifying marks of all UT System components.

UT System trademarks are registered with the U.S. Office of Patents and Trademarks, the State of Texas and in many foreign countries.

A trademark or service mark may be a word, name, symbol or any combination. Many of the registered trademarks in the UT System are associated with UT Athletics. They include Bevo, the Hook ’em Horns hand sign, the interlocking UT, block UT, Longhorn caricature, and football helmet logo.

Since 1987, the high standing of UT System components plus the outstanding performance and visibility of UT Athletics have put the trademark and licensing program among the best in the nation as rated by the Collegiate Licensing Company. The annual royalty income from more than 600 licenses today exceeds $2 million. Royalty income is used to support scholarship funds at all UT System institutions.
