The Longhorn
Pride Program
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at The University of
Texas at Austin has a comprehensive Life Skills Program committed
to the welfare of the student-athlete. The Longhorn Pride
Program (Personal Responsibility in Developing
Excellence) has five major components which are designed to meet
the unique needs of student athletes. The greatest strength of the
Longhorn Pride Program is its true
focus on students. The program is based on needs identified by student-athletes
and assessments by experts. Programs are constructed and designed
with the student-athlete as their primary focus. The Longhorn
Pride Program is an integral part of the life of student-athletes
at The University of Texas at Austin.
The Longhorn Pride Program has a comprehensive approach to providing
educational experiences and services which focus on the individual.
The program is comprised of five areas:
Academic Excellence
Athletic Excellence
Career Development
Community Service
Personal
Development
The student-athletes' direct involvement in these five areas
provides the opportunities to develop important personal skills
during college years. Additionally, UT provides all its student-athletes with the Student-Athlete Handbook, a comprehensive guide to UT Athletics Student Services.
The Longhorn Pride Program helps the student-athlete to acquire
increasing levels of independence and responsibility by enhancing
personal growth during their time at The University of Texas at
Austin.
