Hometown: Dallas, Texas
• All-American and All-SWC pitcher in 1949 and 1950
• Led UT to national championships in 1949 and 1950 and four SWC titles
• Compiled 28-7 overall record and was 20-3 in conference play
• Pitched four years in major leagues with the Boston Braves, Boston Red Sox and Washington Senators
HARVEY “CHINK” WALLENDER
TRACK (1934-36)

Hometown: Tyler, Texas
• Captured SWC titles in 100- and 220-yard dashes and 440-yard relays at 1934-36 SWC meets
• Led UT to three consecutive SWC track titles (1934-36)
• 1936 team captain
• High point man at 1934 and 1936 SWC meets
• All-American in 1936
• NCAA runner-up in 200 meters in 1936

BOB WATSON

• Two-time SWC golf champion in 1948 and 1949
• Led 1949 team to NCAA third place finish
• Led UT to SWC titles in 1946, 1947 and 1949
• Worked as head professional at Westchester (N.Y.) Country Club
BOBBY WHILDEN

Hometown: Houston, Texas
• Member of three world record setting 440-yard relay teams
• Named outstanding performer at 1956 Kansas Relays
• Led UT to 1956 and 1957 SWC titles
• Finalist in 100- and 200-meters at 1956 Olympic trials
BERRY WHITAKER
FOOTBALL (1919, Asst. Coach; 1920-22, Head Coach)

Inducted: 1977
Hometown: San Antonio, Texas
• Led UT to 22-3-1 mark in three seasons as head coach
• 1920 team was unbeaten (9-0) and won SWC championship
• Instrumental in developing UT Intramural Sports Program

Inducted: 1972
Hometown: Houston, Texas
• 1935 team captain
• Won NCAA individual title in 1935 and was runner-up in 1934
• Three-time SWC medalist (1933-35)
• Member of U.S. Walker Cup team that defeated Great Britain in 1950s
LEWIS WHITE

Hometown: Austin, Texas
• 1924 team captain
• Won UT’s first two NCAA doubles titles with Louis Thalheimer in 1923 and 1924
• Won SWC singles and doubles titles in 1922 and 1924
MORRIS WILLIAMS
GOLF (1947-50)

Inducted: 1990 (posthumously)
Hometown: Austin, Texas
• Won Austin junior golf title at age 13
• Led UT to SWC championships in 1947, 1949 and 1950
• Individual NCAA and SWC golf runner-up in 1949 and 1950
• Only golfer to win Texas State Amateur, State Junior and Texas PGA in same season
• Died in Air Force plane crash in 1953
• Austin’s Morris Williams Golf Course is named in his honor
HUGH WOLFE

• All-SWC back and top scorer for UT in 1936 and 1937
• Played in 1938 East-West Shrine game

• UT’s first NFL draft pick (Pittsburgh, 1938)
• Played one season with NFL New York Giants

• Superb left fielder on 1949 and 1950 NCAA championship teams
• Led UT to SWC crowns from 1949-51

• Team captain and defensive standout for 1951 SWC championship basketball team
JOHN A. "WOODY" WOODMAN
BASEBALL (1956-58, Second Baseman)

Hometown: Fort Worth, Texas
• Two-time All-SWC selection
• Led UT in hitting in 1956 & 1957
•• Ranked third on UT single-season batting average list (.413)

•• Career .351 average ties for 11th all-time highest in UT history

•• Joined UT Athletics in 1995 as head of major gifts and planned giving

•• Was associate director of the Longhorn Legacy in 2003 when he passed away
STEVE WORSTER
FOOTBALL (1968-70, Fullback)

Hometown: Bridge City, Texas
• 1969 and 1970 consensus All-American
• All-SWC choice from 1968-70
• Outstanding offensive player in 1970 Cotton Bowl (20 carries, 155 yards)
• Voted 1970 Texas Amateur Athlete of the Year by Texas Sports Writers Association
• UT was 30-2-1, including a 30-game win streak, and won three SWC titles during his career
• Scored 36 career touchdowns and rushed for 2,353 yards
• Team MVP and Houston Post SWC Offensive MVP in 1970
• Fourth in 1970 Heisman Trophy balloting
• Played in 1971 Hula Bowl
RICHARD WORTHAM
BASEBALL (1973-76, Pitcher)

Hometown: Odessa, Texas
• Southpaw who was first 50-game winner in NCAA history
• Pitched more than 456 career innings while compiling 50-7 record
• Recorded 12 career shutouts and 481 strikeouts
• All-SWC in 1973 and 1976
• Led UT to four SWC titles
• Pitched a four-hitter against South Carolina in 1975 NCAA title game
• Team MVP in 1975 and 1976 All-American
• Played for Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics
CHARLES ALAN WRIGHT

Hometown: Austin, Texas
• Legendary UT law professor and the nation’s foremost authority on constitutional law
• Served UT Athletics on both the local and national levels
• Long-time member of the Intercollegiate Athletics for Men Advisory Council
• UT faculty representative in conference and NCAA matters
• Coached the successful “Legal Eagles” recreational sports football team
• Member of numerous special committees for UT Athletics, including search committees for Longhorns head coaches

• Became pilot in Air Corps and transported bombers during World War II
• Attained rank of Brigadier General
