Hall of Honor Statue

The UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor was created in 2000 and its Selection Committee is chaired by Jim Deitrick.

Nomination criteria for a former student-athlete is as follows:
1. Must have been out of collegiate competition for a minimum of five years;
2. Must have competed a minimum of two years at Texas, must have completed her collegiate eligibility at Texas, and must have been awarded a varsity letter;
3. Must have been recognized for outstanding athletic achievement;
4. Must have graduated or ended her UT Athletics career in good academic standing; and
5. Must have exhibited exemplary standards of conduct during competition.

Nomination for a coach or administrator is as follows:
1. must have provided outstanding service to the UT Women's Athletics program; and
2. must have exhibited exemplary standards of conduct during competition.

The Selection Committee considers both a candidate's contribution to the UT Athletics program and the candidate's contributions to his/her community. Nominators must submit three letters of recommendation in support of the nominee's candidacy, whether the nominee is a student-athlete, coach or administrator.

Legacy Award Sub-Committee: 2012
The Legacy Award Sub-Committee solicits, suggests and screens nominees in this category for induction. This category is for candidates who may be considered for induction but who fall outside the conventional criteria for nomination (participated in athletics prior to formal organization of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women, etc.).

Women's Athletics Hall of Honor Bylaws
Article I. Purpose
1. The Women's Athletics Hall of Honor of The University of Texas at Austin recognizes individuals for exceptional contributions to The University of Texas, The University of Texas women's athletics program, and the community-at-large. The Women's Athletics Hall of Honor will be under the direction of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women at the University of Texas at Austin.

Article II. Inductees
1. Inductees of The University of Texas Women's Athletics Hall of Honor may include former players, current or former coaches, current or former administrators, or other individuals who have distinguished themselves by outstanding support and significant contributions to the women's athletics program and the University of Texas.
2. The charter class of 1999-2000 of the University of Texas Women's Athletics Hall of Honor will include no more than ten members.
3. Each year following the inaugural year, a maximum of five individuals will be selected for membership in the UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor.
4. After the inaugural year of 1999-2000, no more than one non-athlete per year will be inducted into the UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor.

Article III. Selection Committee
1. In its first year (1999-2000), the University of Texas Women's Athletics Hall of Honor Selection Committee will be comprised of 21 members selected by the UT Women's Athletics Director. Members will serve 1, 2, or 3 year terms on the committee as determined in a lottery. The Women's Athletics Director will appoint one member to serve as the chair of the Selection Committee.
2. Each year thereafter, in addition to making selections for the University of Texas Women's Athletics Hall of Honor, the Selection Committee will nominate seven individuals to serve on the Selection Committee for three-year terms, with the chair to be designated by the UT Women's Athletics Director.
3. Members of the Selection Committee may serve a second consecutive three-year term on the committee.
4. Members of the Selection Committee should include former University of Texas athletes, current and former administrators, and community leaders with a knowledge of and interest in the University of Texas Women's Athletics Program.
5. The University of Texas Women's Athletics Director will serve as an Ex Officio member of the Selection Committee.
6. The Selection Committee will convene once a year for the purpose of deciding whether to consider nominations and whether to make selections for induction into the University of Texas Women's Athletics Hall of Honor. If the Selection Committee decides to induct a class, the Chair will convene a selection meeting well in advance of the ceremony date.
7. Each year, the Chair will designate three members to form a nominations sub-committee to propose names for prospective members of the Selection Committee.
8. Each year, the Chair will designate three members to form an inductions sub-committee to solicit, suggest and screen nominees for annual induction.
9. Each year, the Chair will designate four members to form a legacy award sub-committee to solicit, suggest and screen nominees in this category for induction. The legacy award is not required to be issued annually.

Article IV. Nominations
1. Nominations for selection to the University of Texas Women's Athletics Hall of Honor may be submitted by any member of the UT Athletics Departments, a current or former athlete, or any interested individual.
2. The University of Texas Department of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women will solicit nominations through a mailing to all T-Association members and through other publications and resources available to the Department. All nominations and supporting information must be received by the established deadline prior to the Selection Committee's fall meeting.
3. A candidate, once nominated, will remain a nominee to the Hall of Honor for a period of three years. After three years, a candidate must be re-nominated to be considered for selection to the Hall of Honor.

Article V. Criteria for Selection
1. To be considered for induction into the UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor, an athlete must have competed for a minimum of two years at the University of Texas at Austin and must have been awarded a varsity letter; must have been recognized for outstanding athletic achievement; must have exhibited exemplary standards of conduct during competition; must have ended her collegiate athletic career at the University of Texas; must have graduated or left the University in good academic standing; and must have been out of collegiate competition of a minimum of five years.
2. To be considered for induction into the UT Women's Hall of Honor, a coach or administrator must have provided outstanding service to the athletics program and must have exhibited exemplary standards of conduct. A coach or administrator may be elected to the Hall of Honor at any time.
3. The Selection Committee may, at its discretion, honor other individuals with induction into the UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor for outstanding support and significant contributions to the women's athletics program and the University of Texas at Austin. The Selection Committee may, in its discretion, determine whether this candidate or group of candidates is one of the five honorees or an additional honoree.
4. The Selection Committee will consider not only a nominee's contributions to the University of Texas and the athletics program but will also consider that nominee's contributions to the community-at-large.
5. Election to the UT Women's Athletics Hall of Honor will be by vote of the Selection Committee members present and voting at the meeting called by the Chair. Members of the Selection Committee may participate by teleconference. Proxy votes or absentee ballots will not be considered in the selection process.
6. The Women's Athletics Director will appoint appropriate staff to support the activities of the UT Women's Hall of Honor Selection Committee. Staff members will coordinate the nomination process and will assemble biographical and other information as needed on all nominees for consideration by the Selection Committee.

Article VI. Induction
1. Inductees into the University of Texas Women's Athletics Hall of Honor will be honored at a special event planned by the UT Department of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women.
2. Recognition of all inductees will be displayed in facilities provided and approved by the UT Department of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women.

Article VII. Amendments to Bylaws
1. The bylaws of the University of Texas Women's Athletics Hall of Honor may be amended by a vote of two-thirds of the Selection Committee present and voting or taking part through teleconferencing at the annual Selection Committee meeting. Amendments to the bylaws may be proposed to the Selection Committee after consultation with the UT Women's Athletics Director.
