• An outfielder who helped lead the Longhorns to three SWC championships and finish as the National Championship runner-up in 1953
• Named first-team All-SWC as an outfielder in the 1953 and 1954 seasons
• Earned second-team All-American honors in 1953 and third-team All-American honors in 1954
• Up until 1967 (when the schedule was limited to no more than 30 regular season games), he held many records including Total Triples (10) and most Total Bases (188)
• Was a member of the Army R.O.T.C. Company C and a member of Delta Tau Delta while at The University of Texas
• For 37 years, he volunteered as an official at the Texas Relays and helped to found the Texas Relays Officials Association.
• Helped introduce T-Ball to the Austin area
