• Earned All-District honors, playing offense, defense and was the starting punter
• Was a key member of Darrell Royal's first recruiting class
• He was a two-way starter, and earned UPI Honorable Mention All-SWC lineman in 1959 and was later chosen to the All-time Gulf Coast Team
• He majored in business at UT and served two years in the Army.
