- A two-year starter on the offensive line during the most successful offensive run game attack in school history. As part of the "Wishbone" offense from 1968-70, Dean played on teams that recorded a three-year record of 30-2-1.
- Contributed to UT's 30-game winning streak, three Southwest Conference championships and two National Championships in 1969 and 1970
- A top blocker despite a slight, 200-pound build, Dean is a member of the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame.
