- Through 2006, had tutored 12 Olympians, 28 national individual event champions, and 15 national title relay teams
- First African-American female to coach an NCAA Championship women's track team (Florida, 1992)
- Member of Women's Sports Foundation International Women's Sports Hall of Fame
- 1981 graduate of Auburn and received master's at Indiana State
