Which sports are included?
These following UT sports will be covered in the season in which the sports are played: basketball (men’s and women’s), baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball. Other Longhorn sports may be featured as well. The exhibition of recent games is contingent upon television exclusivity contracts. In regard to football, because of national television contracts, Bevo-D coverage of the current season will typically include coaches’ interviews, player interviews, press conferences, specials, clips and highlights of previous football seasons. To make sure Longhorn fans get their football fill, classic games will be aired as well.

How did this idea come about?
Tom Kinney, president of the Austin Division of Time Warner Cable, is a big sports fan. During a lunch conversation with Texas Men’s Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds and UT Women’s Athletics Director Chris Plonsky, they realized that a local channel offering UT sports on an "on-demand" basis could result in consumer benefit for the tremendously loyal and avid fans in the Central Texas areas. Time Warner Cable–Austin has been a leader in "video on demand" (known as VOD in the cable industry) services for its viewers, and Bevo-D fits this trend perfectly. As for the clever name? In discussion with all three principles (Kinney, Dodds and Plonsky), they took UT’s most recognizable symbol—Bevo—and realized that a simple addition of "D" to his name made perfect sense for people whose blood runs burnt orange.

Is this project designed as a fund-raiser for The University?
As with any other partnership involving an entity outside The University, UT will receive a fee from Time Warner Cable for licensing and trademark rights. Both entities conceived the project as a community service.

Press Conference Quotes
"It's an exciting day for The University of Texas Athletics. With Bevo-D, Longhorns fans will be able to have access to 24 hours, seven days a week of Texas football, basketball and various other sports. This is something that is new to the nation, which is appropriate, because Texas is at the cutting edge of college athletics. The University of Texas is ahead of the curve. We want to be first and on the cutting edge, and in conjunction with our friends at Time Warner Cable, this programming has become a reality."
-- DeLoss Dodds, UT Men's Athletics Director

"The concept of a video-on-demand channel for Longhorns sports has probably been a year and a half in the making. But, it couldn't happen unless the moon and the stars are aligned. It starts with Mack Brown, who since 1998 has transformed Texas athletics and especially Longhorns football. He has united the great force that is The University of Texas and energized our fans to create some of the most passionate followers of college athletics in America.

Also, I have to recognize Tom Kinney, who had a great vision as to what Time Warner could bring to the University of Texas, the Austin community and central Texas.

This partnership wouldn't have been possible without the help of the best Athletics' Director in the country, DeLoss Dodds, who allows us to be creative in our approach. We like to push the envelope at Texas. Our administration gives us the blessing to try new things and get out on the edge. Thus, we try to do that while always representing our University with class. We believe that this partnership with Time Warner will result in that."
-- Chris Plonsky, UT Women's Athletics Director/ Director of Men's and Women's Athletics External Services

"I'm happy to be here today and talk about a great venture with Time Warner. The people of Texas have a passion for this university. They also have a passion for sports. Bevo-D is another opportunity for Texas fans to go into depth into the present and past of Texas sports. Speaking for our football program, the ability to have our games, and coaches shows on Bevo-D is a tremendous opportunity to showcase the young men in our program. We like to personalize who we are, and that's why the football coaches show features our student-athletes. In addition, what a thrill it will be for a letterman, or a grandfather, to be able to turn to Bevo-D and have his family watch video of him playing in college! We at The University of Texas like to be leaders in all we do; I see endless positive possibilities in what this venture with Time-Warner will bring."
-- Mack Brown, Texas Football Head Coach

"Time Warner Cable-Austin is extremely proud of our longtime relationship with The University of Texas. DeLoss and Chris, thank you for allowing us to be a partner for one of the greatest universities in the United States. We are also the cable provider for The University, as thousands of students watch television in their dorms on Time Warner Cable.

We realized late last year that it was time to take this partnership to another level, a level that is unprecedented in the state, unprecedented across the nation, actually. As a BIG football fan myself, I knew how much fans would love watching classic Longhorn games on demand. These games have not been readily available for years. It's especially exciting to showcase sports that many fans just don't get the opportunity to see, from women's basketball to softball to soccer. I'll be right there watching along with all of the Longhorn fans!"
-- Tom Kinney, President, Time Warner Cable-Austin Division
