Celebrating achievement in the classroom

AUSTIN, Texas -- A total of 48 University of Texas student-athletes are scheduled to receive either undergraduate or graduate degrees from The University this weekend. This total includes 15 Longhorn football student-athletes who graduated prior to playing in the Rose Bowl in January.

Individual college, school and department convocations are scheduled across the UT campus on Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20. The 123rd Spring Commencement, a university-wide ceremony, is set to begin at the University of Texas Tower on Saturday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m.

"It puts a smile on your face to see these outstanding young men and women complete their task at hand," said UT Women's Athletics Director Christine Plonsky. "Among this impressive number of graduates are some of our most successful student-athletes. We are so proud of what these young people have accomplished on the field and in the classroom. We will miss seeing them everyday but wish them the best in their endeavors."

"This weekend is a great reminder of what our student-athletes are truly here for < to compete at the highest level athletically and to succeed in the classrooms of one of the greatest academic institutions," said UT Men's Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds. "We ask a lot of our student-athletes and we are proud of our graduates. We share their pride and appreciate their success. We thank them all."
