AUSTIN, Texas -- A total of 53 University of Texas student-athletes are scheduled to participate in the 125th Spring Commencement at The University this weekend. This group includes members of 15 different athletic teams who will receive degrees in majors as diverse as corporate communication, electrical and petroleum engineering, finance, speech & language pathology, theatre & dance, accounting and anthropology, to name just a few. Individual college, school and department convocations are scheduled across the UT campus on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17. The university-wide Commencement ceremony is set to begin at the University of Texas Tower on Saturday, May 17 at 8 p.m. "A college degree is the ultimate goal of every young person that comes through The University of Texas," said UT Men's Athletics Director DeLoss Dodds. "We see them transition, over a four-or-five year period, into young adults ready to tackle life after college. This is a proud day for them, a proud day for their families and a proud day for us." "Graduation is the crowning achievement in the lives of our student-athletes," said UT Women's Athletics Director Chris Plonsky. "We have enjoyed watching them compete in athletics, but this is really what it is all about. All of their hard work in the classroom has resulted in a degree that is valued throughout the world."
