Baseball, Men's Basketball and Women's Golf earn NCAA public recognition awards

May 12, 2010

INDIANAPOLIS -- The University of Texas baseball, men's basketball and women's golf programs are among 841 Division I sports teams to receive public recognition awards for their latest multi-year NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR), the NCAA announced Wednesday. These teams posted multi-year APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The public recognition awards are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete during the school year. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

Multi-year APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition awards and penalties for low-performing teams, will be announced later this spring. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 academic years.
