Texas Longhorns Energy announces additional budget-friendly electricity plans for Longhorns fans
March 7, 2011
DALLAS -- Times are tough and Texans are always ready and willing to help out a neighbor or a friend. Texas Longhorns Energy is now making it even easier on the pocketbook of Longhorns fans to support the University of Texas and the environment with the flip of a switch. Texas Longhorns Energy launched in August and is the Official Electricity Sponsor of Texas Athletics. Through this innovative program, proud fans are supporting both the University and Longhorns Athletics from their homes and businesses, simply by paying their electricity bill. Each new customer account generates funds for the Athletics Department and the University's sustainability efforts. Ex-students and fans in deregulated regions of Texas, which includes more than 400 cities, have been benefiting from competitive rates for 100% renewable energy and can now choose from additional, more affordable partial green electricity plans from Texas Longhorns Energy, powered by one of the nation's top retail electricity providers, Houston-based Champion Energy Services. The electricity plans provide a choice of 50% or 100% renewable energy generated by wind, solar energy and biofuels. While rates change daily, Texas Longhorns Energy offers a lower rate than most of the other comparable providers. "Texas alumni and fans have been choosing Texas Longhorns Energy for their homes and businesses for several months," said DeLoss Dodds, University of Texas Men's Athletics Director. "Now we are excited to expand the electricity plan offers to encourage more Longhorns to make the switch and support The University with something they use every day." Texas Longhorns Energy customers also have exclusive opportunities to receive game tickets, on Longhorns memorabilia, participate in special promotions and more. Longhorn fans in deregulated regions of Texas are encouraged to visit www.TexasLonghornsEnergy.com to learn how to switch providers and sign up for Texas Longhorns Energy. The impact one small change could have on the school is limitless: these accounts will continue to create funds for the University as long as they remain active Texas Longhorn Energy customers. "As a Texas Ex, and for all of us who love our Longhorns, knowing we can contribute to the University's success simply by choosing Texas Longhorns Energy is an exciting proposition and we are pleased to make that decision even easier for Longhorns," said Champion Energy Services CEO Scott Fordham.
